Spiced Chicken Drumsticks
Yesterday Ben and I began another Whole 30 challenge. For those of you new here, it's a 30 day commitment to remove all grains, legumes, dairy & sugar (even honey, agave, & maple syrup) from our meals & snacks. It's a great time to not only get my body back into a healthy alignment, but my soul & mind as well. When I find myself hitting the afternoon hour it's all too easy to medicate with food or drink. I normally avoid grains & dairy outside of Whole 30; however, I put heavy whipping cream in my coffee (it doesn't contain as much lactose), which is something I would drink in the afternoon.
This afternoon proves otherwise. One thing a person must embrace by participating in Whole 30 is cooking. It cannot be avoided. Some might think that meals are exquisite in my home, or have a certain idea of how I cook; but, really, I like to keep it simple. I avoid elaborate & multiple step recipes for weeknight meals (the little people who live here need more of me). What I do embrace is cooking with the seasons, buying from sustainable meat practices, & making the food speak for itself. That's me (however, I bake with a bit more complexity)!
