Day 10 :: ISFP the Composer & ESFP the Performer

Yesterday I wrote about the other two Artisan personality types, the Crafter (ISTP) & the Promoter (ESTP) who are the Operators with their SP Tactical Roles.  Today I will be writing on the Entertainer (SP Tactical Roles), which are the Composer (ISFP) & the Performer (ESFP).

Entertainer the SP Tactical Role:

The Entertainer Artisans are friendly & able to create, think up, or wing it when it comes to creating.  What sets them apart from their Operator Artisan counterparts is the Entertainer would much rather share their creations with others, while the Operators would rather direct their actions.  Their tactical ability allows them to have a keen eye on every sensual detail of the environment to use spontaneously, or "adapt something on the spot." They have an ability to jerry-rig, use whatever resources lie in front of them to create.  This may sound similar to the NT Engineer, because both devise plans through improvisation & engineering to construct the final masterpiece.  However, the Engineer will set out to find the proper tools to get the job done; while, the Entertainer will use whatever is in front of them.

How does this translate to the Performer & Composer?

Performer as Entertainer: With the Performers expressive personality, they improvise in front of others.  They want to share their gift with others, so this is most often seen in the literal sense of Performer (as in on stage); however, it is not limited to simply the stage.  Performers use their tactical intellect through teaching, real estate, retail sales, public relations & politics--as Keirsey states, "wherever skillfully handling an audience is part of the job description."

Composer as Entertainer: With the Composers reserved personality, they use their tactical intellect to create pleasurable works of art instead of staging shows for others (this is the Performer).  The Composer uses whatever means they have in front of them by creating aesthetically pleasing pieces.  All of this is done by working alone.  They are very skilled aesthetically, via painting, choreography, music, interior design, landscaping, fashion design--any occupation paying mind to the five senses.  Again, they use their tactical intellect to share with others, they just do it by themselves.

Taking a closer look at the Composer & Performer:

The Composer (ISFP)

ISFP the Composer: I for Introverted, S for Sensing, F for feeling, P for Perceiving

ISFPs excel in "fine arts," but we shouldn't limit them to composing music as their name suggests.  They are skilled at bringing light to the world of senses.  This can be seen as painters, song writers, fashion designers, film director, poet, novelist, etc.  They have a firm grasp on what fits & what doesn't fit within these specified worlds of creating (wherever they find themselves).

They are similar to the other three Artisans in the way that they value artistry, adaptability, & audacity.  They live in the here & now.  Composers make up of nine or ten per cent of the populace.  They are skilled in tactical artistry.  While their introverted Artisan counterpart, the Crafter is attuned to the tool & uses, the Composer is more attuned to the sensual artistry which comes from the tools.  They have a natural ability to make use of light & color, sound & taste, depending on their specific outsource.

It is hard to spot these Composers, because they use their hands to communicate & express themselves.  So unless, you hear their compositions, see their paintings, taste their food, you may miss out in knowing them.  And even then, you may not be able to understand what they are conveying through their creations.

They are just as impulsive & spontaneous as the other three Artisans. They live in the moment in their creation.  As they paint, create a recipe, dance or skate, they do this without much thought to it, but simply do.  What separates them from the other three Artisans is their ability to become unaware of fatigue as they keep at their creation.  They get so engrossed in creating, that everything else seems to fade.

Their ability to get lost in their work is what allows them to create such masterpieces.  ISFPs are the kindest of all types; as well as, having an extreme sensitivity to others sufferings.  They are moved by young children or even animals, through their sensitive spirits.  It could be said that through their sensitive spirits they communicate this suffering & sensitivity through their creative outlet.  Keirsey states, "Composers have an instictive longing for the pastoral, the bucolic, the out-of-doors, the wild, and nature seems to welcome them," which makes me think of Bob Ross.

Occupations which draw Composers are "fine arts," (painting, drawing, sculpting), dancing & choreography, composing music, film, writers, interior decorating & landscaping.  With their tender, caring hearts, they would bode well as nurses or forestry with a love of outdoors.  Whatever job, they would need to be in a career, which would allow for spontaneity & freedom in how they chart their course.  They are friendly & soft-spoken individuals.  And although they want freedom in life, they thrive having a spouse/mate who is loyal & stable (much like that of an SJ).

The Performer (ESFP)

ESFP the Performer: E for Extroverted, S for Sensing, F for feeling, P for Perceiving

The Performer is naturally inclined to perform or put on a show for others by entertaining them.  They are full of life & joy, more than any other personality type.  The cliche "all the world's a stage," truly defines the Performer.  They are playful & loving & the most expressive of the Artisans.  One of their main social motives is to enliven & awaken others senses & emotions.  They're charming abilities allow others to cast off their cares & concerns to live in the present moment.  They want to be seen as artistic, adaptable, & audacious.

Performers are plentiful with over ten per cent of the populace.  The love an audience & prefer to be in the company of others.  They aren't comfortable being alone.  They are witty conversationalists & able to play on words & turn anything into a joke or story.  They like living in the fast lane & stay up to date with the latest trends & fashions.

Their ability to enjoy life is good for the most part; yet, if ESFPs are not careful, they are easily taken in by their impulses, or desires of the moment.  They do what they feel without giving much consequence to their actions.  They tend to not get caught up in the "worries" or "anxieties" of the day, because they truly live in the here & now, which is where life should be lived in their eyes.  When life does get sticky for them, they tend to not allow it affect them.  Keirsey states, "They will let themselves appear outwardly concerned--and then go their own way to do what they enjoy."

They are the most generous of all the types & second in kindness only to ISFPs.  Their generous hearts lends them to forget about saving for tomorrow.  They are such free spirits that they believe in giving freely without hesitation & expect nothing in return.  They are also very affectionate & expressive.  They tend to wear their hearts on their sleeves.  They appear fickle, or even promiscuous, but truly it's because they easily share all of their life with others & it's done with innocence.

They are popular with classmates.  They don't enjoy school, but they are not hostile with teachers.  They will go along with agendas if only to get to the subjects that truly interest them (sports, arts, music, drama).  Traditional schooling isn't as important to them, or even retain their interest.  They excel in practical things within education.  When seeking a career, ESFPs need to work with people; whether, this be on the stage as an actual performer or retail sales.  They should avoid solitary jobs (i.e. research, avoid science & engineering) and gravitate towards communcation & business.
